Message from the Chancellor

Dear Colleagues,

We have a real chance to positively impact the lives of our neighbors and our brothers and sisters around the world through the 2008 Campus Charitable Fund Drive (CCFD).

This year's theme is Every Gift Matters. A donation of $5 a week helps a family recover from the devastating effects of a house fire. The same amount contributed each pay period buys five wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy. A $20 contribution buys a medical kit with enough basic supplies and drugs to care for 1,500 Indonesian patients for three months.

I still believe in the timeless axiom: think globally, act locally. And, in this campaign, you can do both. The 11 non-profit organizations listed in this brochure are proven leaders in the fields of charitable support. From Global Impact to the United Way of Champaign County to the United Negro Fund, there is every opportunity to make a difference here at home and in the world.

I am proud to note that in each of the past several years we have donated more than $1 million. And, with Robert Dodds, Jr. as our Board Chair, I am confident that we will race past this year's goal $1.4 million. Let us think of this year's goal in the following way: $10,000 for each of the university's 140-year history.

So please join me on September 22, 2008, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Krannert Center for Performing Arts to kick-off this year's CCFD. Many of the participating agencies will be there to show us the cumulative power of our generosity.

Let us come together and once again demonstrate our Illini pride of giving by supporting the CCFD.

Very truly yours,

Richard Herman

Chancellor
